SINTEF – Norway
About
SINTEF is the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia. SINTEF is a broadly based, multidisciplinary research concern that possesses international top-level expertise in technology, medicine, and the social sciences. SINTEF is an independent, non-commercial organization. The profits of their contract research projects are invested in new research, scientific equipment, and competence development. SINTEF employs 2100 staff who comes from 68 different countries.
SINTEF Industry as one of the SINTEF research institutes has a broad experience of different CO2 capture technologies utilizing absorption solvent, membranes, and solid sorbents through a high number of both national and international projects. SINTEF Industry is active in the development of a variety of CO2 capture technologies spanning from membrane-based technologies (polymeric, Pd, ceramic), via sorbent based – low temperature processes based on porous adsorbents (MOFs, Zeolites, Activated Carbon, etc.) and high temperature sorbents (hydrotalcites, calcites, dolomites), to solvent-based technologies (alkanolamine solvents). The work covers the whole development lines from fundamental research on material synthesis, characterization and shaping via materials testing and process modelling to upscaling, benchmarking, and life chain analyses studies. Post- and pre-combustion, biogas upgrading as well as natural gas sweetening have been studied through the last 15 years.
